At Sky Edulearn, we offer engaging and interactive Phonics for Kids Classes designed to lay a strong foundation in literacy skills, phonemic awareness, and reading readiness for young learners. Phonics is a fundamental approach to teaching reading and spelling by associating letters or letter groups with the sounds they represent.
Letter Recognition : Students will learn to identify and recognize individual letters of the alphabet, both uppercase and lowercase. They will learn the names of the letters, their shapes, and their sounds, laying the groundwork for phonemic awareness and decoding skills.
Phonemic Awareness : Our curriculum includes activities and exercises to develop phonemic awareness, which is the ability to hear, identify, and manipulate individual sounds (phonemes) in spoken words. Students will practice segmenting, blending, and manipulating sounds to improve their phonological processing skills.
Sound-Symbol Correspondence : Students will learn the correspondence between sounds and letters (grapheme-phoneme correspondence) through explicit phonics instruction. They will learn the sounds associated with consonant letters, vowel letters, and common letter combinations (digraphs, blends, diphthongs), enabling them to decode words and spell accurately.
Blending and Segmenting : Our classes teach students how to blend individual sounds together to form words (sounding out) and segment words into their component sounds (breaking down). They will practice blending and segmenting skills using a variety of phonics-based activities, games, and exercises.
Sight Words : Students will learn high-frequency sight words (irregularly spelled words) that do not follow typical phonics patterns. They will memorize these words by sight to improve fluency and comprehension in reading and writing.
Decoding and Encoding : Our Phonics for Kids Classes help students develop decoding skills, which involve using phonics knowledge to sound out and read words. They will also develop encoding skills, which involve using phonics knowledge to spell words accurately when writing.
Reading Comprehension : As students progress in their phonics skills, they will apply their knowledge to reading connected text and developing reading comprehension skills. They will learn strategies for understanding and interpreting texts, including predicting, summarizing, questioning, and making connections.
